Where do you start talking about the things that you just simple mustn't miss in Paris? Well it might seem unfair but do miss the airports if you can, they were only built to confuse passengers. Instead of taking a plane to Paris you should travel in style on a French train or of course in luxury on the Venice Simpleton Orient Express which you can see occasionally at the mouth wateringly beautiful station of Gare du Nord.

Apart from being the most attractive railway station in continental Europe the Gare du Nord is right in the heart of Paris and this means that when you arrive in Paris at the Gare du Nord you are where you should be not miles from anywhere. 

If you arrive in Paris at night there is absolutely no doubt that you will be able to see why they call Paris "the city of light." At night every thing and everywhere is illuminated in a way tat must cause sleepless nights for any conservationist, but it is, it has to be said one of the great sights in the world. 

In particular the Eiffel Tower is always dramatically lit with an array of millions of spotlights that can be programmed to turn the tower any number of colours and colour combinations. Of course the Eiffel tower is just as impressive in daylight and is one of those places that you must see before you die as they say about places that are extremely impressive.

Make sure you plan your visit to the Eiffel tower because it is more than likely that you will have to queue to use the lift to the top and taking the stairs will kill all humans but veterans of successful Mount Everest attempts.

If you are short of time when you are visiting Paris make a short list and allow as much time to shop for food as you do for clothes and sightseeing, why well quite simply because as the home of couture there is really no place quite like Paris to shop for clothes. 

Even if you couldn't afford the bow of a Chanel shoe you have to drop into the Chanel boutique and watch sales personnel there are more 'beautiful' people in pain from their tight clothing and uncomfortable high heels in the Chanel boutique than in a spa in Hollywood and so the experience will really brighten your day. 

On a more serious note don't miss the L'Arc de Triomphe which is a giant arch to no where in the middle of a roundabout, one of the biggest and busiest in the world. The Arc de Triomphe has a number of places where you can climb up to look out over the wide spread of the Champs d'Elysee which runs for near two miles in front of you.
