It doesn't matter where you go in Florence you will see some of the most wonderful architecture in the world, the greatest paintings and the most beautiful piazzas in the world. Looking out over the cityscape of Florence which is dominated by the Il Duomo the one thing that will surprise you is that Florence is tiny and that means happily that you can walk around Florence to do your sightseeing.

Mixed in along the delightful streets are cool squares, sheltered gardens and so very much to see. Most people head for the Il Duomo or the Cattedrale de Santa Maria del Fiore, you can't miss it, it is enormous, in fact it is an enormous masterpiece that needs to be seen to be believed the dome from the outside is impressive but standing under it and gazing up is breathtaking.

Outside is the Campinile in the Piazza del Duomo designed originally by one of the most famous architects ever Giotto it is a work of art that you can climb to the top of and see the city. There isn't a lift but there are 414 steps to the top. 

As you wander through Florence you are never far from the Arno river which in until World War II was spanned by quite a few bridges, now though only the Pont Vecchio still stands, it is like no other bridge because as you cross the river using the bridge you will have the opportunity to shop because it is lined with shops mainly selling crafts and jewellery. 

Lastly and if you are a lover of fine art especially Renaissance art you can't possibly miss the Galleria degli Uffizi. Outside are copies of Michelangelo's most famous sculptures like the iconic statue of David, inside you will fine originals by paintings and sculptures by Raphael, Botticelli, Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Perugino, and Giotto.
