Everyone who knows where Blackpool is can probably tell you three things about Blackpool, the first is that it has a Tower called Blackpool Tower; the second is that it has a Pleasure Beach, which is not as 'Scandinavian' or indeed as 'scandalous' as it sounds and third Blackpool has 'illuminations.'

All of the above facts are true and two the Blackpool Tower and the Blackpool Pleasure beach are open more or less all the year round even when the wind whipping off the Irish Sea could be described as 'nippy' and the snow on the beach is as cold as the ice cream that you can get on the Blackpool Pier. 

The main reason you go to Blackpool is to have fun and the fun is literally never ending. Obviously you can see all of Blackpool and a lot of the Irish Sea from Blackpool's tallest building Blackpool Tower, which is 518 feet tall or in metric around 158 metres. 

Blackpool Tower is not a true copy of the one in Paris, it was completed in 1894 and from the very top you can see for over 30 miles. The tower unlike the one in Paris has a circus and ballroom at the base and holds any number of events through the years. 

Next on your list of places to visit in Blackpool has to be the Blackpool Pleasure Beach, the Blackpool Pleasure beach is a family owned amusement park and one of the foremost in the United Kingdom, with some of the biggest, fastest most thrilling rides. Including the Valhalla ride which is a rollercoaster ride in total darkness. 

Blackpool boast fun and entertainment for all and from the Donkey rides on the beach in the summer for toddlers to the illuminated tram trips up and down the sea front to see at first hand the Blackpool Illuminations. 

The Blackpool Illuminations or 'The Lights' as they are known locally usually are switched on towards the end of the summer season in September as the nights draw in and evening falls early and last for 66 days. 

The Blackpool Illuminations are regarded as the "greatest Free Light Show on Eart" and run for 6 miles along the seafront and use in excess of one million light bulbs. Trams and Buses also get lit up as do all of the building along the route with the crowning glory being the Blackpool Tower.
