London is small polluted and very over crowded and in the summer now that global warming has increased the temperatures is quite uncomfortable, however London is simply not to be missed under any circumstances what so ever.

London is an almost unbelievable mixture of the old and new and has been in the city business for many thousands of years. If you want see some of the finest art collections in the world within two or three miles of each other then you will be delighted to visit the National Gallery (entrance free), the Tate Gallery and the Tate Modern (both free to enter), the Courtauld Gallery and the Hayward Gallery. Not bad for a smallish city?

The best view of any city in the world is the view that you get from being at the very top of the London Eye, a massive and very slow moving Ferris wheel which is the grand daddy of Ferris wheels. At the top of the London Eye, where although you don't stop, you will be 443 feet above London and able to see everything. From the coast in the south to over the high walls of the Queen's gardens in the north and beyond, it's a sight that just makes sore eyes.

On the ground just up from the London Eye you can visit a reconstruction of The Globe one of the theatres that Shakespeare's plays were performed in when he was a working playwright in the first Queen Elizabeth's London and almost at the same time visit the Royal Festival Hall where playwrights get to see their plays performed in the second Queen Elizabeth's London.

Speaking of the royal family just down the road from the south bank and on the opposite side of the river Thames you can visit the Tower of London where a number of royal family members were held before their executions together with a range of interesting, sometimes innocent 'traitors' who had offended or generally got on the nerves of homicidal maniacs such as King Henry XIII.

The current royal family have a residence a few minutes away at Buckingham Palace where if they are in residence you will see a flag flying above the palace and whether they are in residence or not every morning and every afternoon you can catch the changing of the royal guard after watching the changing of the Horse Guards in Whitehall.

That is the thing about London it is so very small that you can get around and see everything so easily. When you are standing in Whitehall, you can see the Houses of Parliament, and Westminster Abbey to the west and Trafalgar Square to the east. In front of you is the river with views of the city of London and the wonderful 'Re' building nicknamed the Gherkin because of its amazing shape.
