Known in China, as one of the 24 most important historical cities in China Guangzhou is a place of great culture with many very interesting sites to visit.

If you believe in magic then Guangzhou is very likely to be one of the places that you will want to not only visit but also spend time enjoying. Guangzhou is surrounded by beautiful mountains such as the White Cloud Mountain which whisper mystery and magic. 

But you don't have to visit the White Cloud Mountain to encounter a Genie, in fact if you go to the Taoist Temple the Temple of the Five Genies you will encounter five genies who came to Guangzhou on five celestial Rams.

Actually the Chinese translation can be in interpreted in few different ways and so some people call the Temple of the Five Genies the Five Immortals Temple.

The Temple of the Five Genies is well worth a visit even if it is just to see the footprint of one of the Celestial Rams preserved in stone.

If the Temple of the Five Genies made you wan to see more temples then happily in Guangzhou you are in the right place because there are so many exquisite examples large and small, the Temple of the Chen Family and the Guangxiao Temple are wonderful examples the Guangxiao Temple is one of the oldest Buddhist Temples in China and may have been built in the second century AD although some experts believe it dates back to the fourth century AD. In side is a massive golden image of Buddha. 

After your daily dose of culture and temples why not take a relaxing river cruise on the Pearl River, in the west we know the Pearl River as a place where Soy Sauce comes from but it is so much more than that. The Pearl River is a place of astonishing beauty and there is no better way than to take a late afternoon cruise and have dinner aboard the river boat as you slowly meaner past the countryside.

No visit to Guangzhou would be complete without a visit to Yuexiu Park which not only is a very attractive carefully landscaped park it is the site of several interesting historical artefacts. At the north end of the park closest to the city is a portion of the original Ming Dynasty City Wall and you can reach it by walking past an ancient sculpture of the Cities Five Rams and the amazing Zhenhai Tower.
